How it works

Enter how much you invest, your entry and exit price, your leverage (1 for a normal spot buy) and the fee your exchange charges per trade. The calculator gives you:

  • Profit or loss in dollars after fees
  • Return on investment, measured on the money you put in
  • Price move between entry and exit
  • Position size in coins
  • Fees paid on the way in and out

Profit = Quantity × (Exit − Entry) − Fees, for a long trade

For a short trade the price difference is reversed: you profit when the exit is below the entry.

Leverage cuts both ways

With 10x leverage, a 5% move in your favour becomes a 50% return on your margin, but a 5% move against you is a 50% loss, and a move of roughly 10% wipes out the position. The calculator shows an estimated liquidation price whenever leverage is above 1, and warns you when your exit price is beyond it. Use the liquidation price calculator for more detail.

Do not forget fees

Spot fees are often around 0.1% per trade, futures fees lower, but they apply to the full leveraged position. On a 10x position a 0.05% fee on each side costs 1% of your margin per round trip. Frequent trading with high leverage can lose money to fees alone.

Frequently asked questions

What is ROI in crypto?

Return on investment is your profit divided by the money you put in. A $1,000 investment that ends at $1,150 after fees has a 15% ROI.

How do I calculate profit on a short trade?

Enter the price you sold at as the entry and the price you bought back at as the exit, and choose Short. A short from 60,000 to 57,000 on 1 BTC makes about $3,000 before fees.

Does this include funding fees?

No. Perpetual futures also charge or pay a funding fee every few hours. Check the current funding rate on your exchange or in the Alice funding tracker.
